Rome Memorial Hospital stated that they were experiencing several challenges with their current program. Daniels Health listened to their pain points, created a strategy and reviewed our deployment plan with the Rome facilities manager and leadership for approval. Below is how we eliminated each challenge.

• Improved recycling in the operating room. Optimised layout of containers for solid waste, recycling, and implemented our device recovery program. Educated all hospital staff on waste segregation. Results: labour was reduced and the device recovery program has dramatically reduced Rome’s spend on 64 litre sharps containers.
• Reduced Back injuries Issues. When we took over the account we had the staff use our 360 LItre totes on wheels to eliminate need for double stacking, provide mobile accessibility, and avert injury risk. Results: reduced the turns of handling biomedical waste bins from 1,099 to 379 per year. Labour reduction of over 50%.
• Implemented a Pharmaceutical program. We provided custom-designed education posters for hospital staff and implemented a non-hazardous waste program. Results: the hospital became equipped to handle their program internally, saving costs.
• Increased Sharps Safety. The Daniels reusable sharps container, the Sharpsmart, was implemented and all containers were optimised for location and placement. Results: Zero container-related sharps injuries and container usage dropped from 3,481 turns to 1,922 turns – an almost 50% reduction.
• Provided Transparent Pricing. Our partners only pay for the waste in their containers. Results: With a per turn rate, our costing model saved Rome Hospital $10,000 on their sharps spend in a year.
